COMUNICATO STAMPA – Incontro dell’Ambasciatore Cantini con il Ministro delle Antichita’ El Enany

COMUNICATO STAMPA 6 NOVEMBRE 2017

PRESS RELEASE 6th NOVEMBER 2017

Ambassador of Italy in Cairo, Giampaolo Cantini, was received today by the Minister of Antiquities, Dr. Khaled El Enany, in a meeting that first of all acknowledged the historical relations between Italy and Egypt in the sectors of archeology and cultural heritage.

Underlining the several Italian Archeological Missions in Egypt – currently 22 – Ambassador Cantini confirmed the commitment in the fields of preservation and restoration on the basis of the ongoing fruitful cooperation by Minister El Enany and his staff. In particular, “Sistema Italia” – the Italian institutional and private community – stands ready to contribute with advanced technologies in favour of the several Egyptian entities active in the sector – museums, Universities, research and documentation centres, also in the framenwork of EU initiatives in which major European museums are involved – and with training programmes. The meeting gave the opportunity to announce the scolarship in favour of young conservators from the Ministry of Antiquities by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The courses will be held at the “Istituto Superiore per la Conservazione ed il Restauro” (ISCR) in Rome. In the same context, the contribution by the Italian Cooperation through UNESCO in favour of the Islamic Museum in Cairo, another subject of the meeting, will be focused on training courses for Museum’s staff.

Ambassador Cantini and Minister El Enany eventually discussed the details of specific projects, financed under the Italian-Egyptian Debt Swap Programme, aimed at the touristic promotion of important Egyptian archeological sites.
